“Protector and provider?”

This picture just screams domestic discipline to me…

So here’s a question for the guys: do men in this day and age still want to be the “protector and provider” for their lady/family?

I saw a guy on TV yesterday saying just that, and I wondered how true it actually is.  According to him, if a woman is too successful, or independent, or together, then what does she need a man for?  (We’re talking relationships here, not just sex.)

So how about it guys?  What’s the real scoop?  I mean, I live in LA, which doesn’t count as real world…

Yes, I still do. And a part of that is disciplining my lover, Jean Marie, as often as she needs it. BTW, we used to live in LA where Jeanie was an actress/model, but moved to the more “rooted” Midwest years ago. Much more sane and centered here.
    We enjoy your blog!

Real scoop? I think question is fantasy vs reality of this. In RL chances are the woman can manage herself fine – even in LA. But that doesn’t stop the Protect & Provide fantasy -Alex http://artofauthority.wordpress.com

So you think women can protect themselves, huh? For those who agree, you’ve been watching too much Hollywood. You know, where they show a woman taking a full-fledged punch in the face by a six-foot, two-hundred pound man, then she just shakes it off and throws a few punches and kicks of her own and wins the day. Yea, ok, you just keep believing that. Reality is sometimes a hard wall to run into ladies. The muscle capacity just isn’t there. Ever seen those busy building magazines? Ever wonder why the woman is always sitting on the man’s shoulders, and not the other way around?

      Hi Dean,

I just found your comment– I’m afraid for some reason the spam filter picked it up.

I have to say, I think you mis-read this particular post. I never said anything about a woman’s ability to protect herself, or otherwise. The theme was, do men want to protect?

Not quite the same as what you’re referring to…
